Guys, Welcome to another blog and I am going to share my experience and what I have learnt from this industry use case session. It was the wonderful session I attended and got many insights.

Let us briefly know about the instructors:

Rushil Sharma ( Customer Engineer Hybrid Cloud, Google)

He has Experience in driving Financial institutions to optimize the Kubernetes workloads to leverage the optimum resources available without over committing the hardware. He has also worked at RedHat and contributed on Openshift 4.

Mr. Vijit Kuntal (Consultant, Infosys Belgium)

He is an experienced Senior System Engineer extremely skilled in DevOps, Jenkins.

Mr. Neeraj Bhatt (Senior Technical Engineer- OpenShift, Redhat )

He is working in Redhat from more than 4 years now

The session was all rounder i.e. starting with how the is Concurrent Versions System (CVS) now discarded move to distributed version then moving to how the kubernetes is used in system design of the Bank of Plutaws and at last we get to know about the openshift’s pod security using SCC. Lets see each one of them in some details.

The first part delivered by Mr. Vijit Kuntal, took us to the complete devops, by showing how the company is shifting 1600 Modules from CVS to GIT. Why do we need to shift from CVS? The main reason behind it is GIT is easy to manage and in CVS its very difficult to create branch and delete the branch. Shifting from the CVS to Git is very long process. Major Tools used are cvs2git to do this. Then after shifting to git it is connected to Jenkins using hooks to automate the deployment. Here the docker comes to play, Jenkins uses the containers to deploy and test which before that took 7 to 8 hours now takes some minutes. Overall it was the part where the integration comes into play and we got the great insights on DevOps.

The second part was by Mr. Rushil Sharma, and showed us how the containers can be optimized and how he has done it in the bank of Plutaws. He showed us the infrastructure how it was created and I was really amazed because it was full blown infrastructure that has HAPROXY, engineering servers, testing servers and production servers. It also has the Kraken, a Chaos Tool for OpenShift/Kubernetes to understand what the system will do after a problem arrives. He told us about how to alot the milicores and explained how he reduced the hardware requirement of that bank.

The last part of the session was delivered Mr. Neeraj Bhatt on the problem statement to make a use of custom SCC to keep the pods secure. It was completely new topic for me so I do got some insights still there I have to learn more of it. SCC are basically controls the SELinux context and other security related issues. For this we have to launch SA then attach with the custom SCC then set the priority of it and deploy it to production environment.

Huge Thanks to all the guest lecturer for the amazing session and Preeti mam and Vimal Daga sir for organizing this Session.

That’s it, Thanks For reading, and until then goodbye!
